Overpaintings
The overpaintings have been an integral part of the oeuvre of Berlin artist Peer Kriesel since 2012. In this series, the artist uses "designed" print products that have outlived their original function as painting surfaces. He employs a wide variety of materials, from canceled train tickets, admission tickets, invitations to exhibition openings, postcards, atlases, and large-format nautical charts.
Peer Kriesel is fascinated by these obsolete documents of contemporary history, which are becoming increasingly rare in an age of digital transformation and a digital society and can serve as a kind of mirror for us regarding values and identity.
